Three-Star TE Luke Sohyda Commits to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO — Ohio State has landed a commitment from Class of 2028 tight end Luke Sohyda, a three-star tight end out of Canon-McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.

The 6-4, 250-pound Sohyda picked the Buckeyes over a Pittsburgh, West Virginia and others.

This one had been trending toward Columbus for a while. Sohyda has been high on Ohio State since the offer came in, and once the Buckeyes were on the board, the rest of the list never really caught up.

The visit that settled it came late in August. Sohyda was on campus for the season opener against Ball State, got the full gameday experience at Ohio Stadium, and didn't take long to make it official afterward. When a recruit has a clear leader going into a visit and the visit goes well, the decision tends to follow quickly.

Pitt and West Virginia, the two regional programs with the most natural pull for a Western Pennsylvania kid, both had offers in early. Neither was able to close the gap once Ohio State entered the picture.

Sohyda gives the Buckeyes an early anchor at tight end in the 2028 class, and it's a position where Ohio State has made a point of prioritizing size and physicality at the point of attack.

His frame is the first thing that jumps out on his profile. At 6-4 and 250 as a sophomore, he already carries the size Ohio State wants at the position, and the versatility on tape is what makes the projection interesting. In 2025, Sohyda played both ways for Canon-McMillan, taking snaps on the defensive line while also lining up at offensive tackle and tight end. He finished with 40 tackles, three tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hurries, four pass breakups and a sack.

He's also a multi-sport athlete who competes in the throwing events in track and has played hockey. That combination, a big body with the explosiveness and movement skills to skate, tends to translate well to in-line tight ends who can block and still get out into routes.

He's still early in his development as a pure tight end. The DL and OT snaps mean the blocking foundation is there. He gives off early Will Kacmarek vibes.
