Colorado Lands Three-Star EDGE Kaylon Bailey Over Ohio State, Louisville
Colorado pulled off one of its more surprising recruiting victories of the summer on Thursday as three-star EDGE Kaylon Bailey announced his commitment to the Buffaloes.
The 6'2 225lbs pass rusher from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He chose Colorado over Ohio State, Louisville, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and USF.
For much of Bailey's recruitment, Ohio State was viewed as the team to beat. The Buckeyes had longstanding momentum with the in-state prospect and were considered the favorite by many throughout the process. As official visit season approached, however, the recruitment began to shift.
Bailey took visits to each of his top schools and used the process to evaluate where he fit best both on and off the field. While Ohio State remained firmly in the mix, questions surrounding his long-term fit and future role emerged during the final stages of his recruitment.
Then, here comes the Buffs… Coach Prime and Company capitalized on the opportunity and steadily gained momentum as Bailey worked through his options. Colorado's vision for his future, developmental plan, and the opportunity presented by Sanders and his coaching staff ultimately stood out above the rest.
He already possesses a solid foundation for an edge defender while maintaining the athletic traits necessary to play in space. His first-step quickness allows him to challenge offensive tackles immediately after the snap. Bailey has the tools to become a much more complete edge defender at the college level.
Has energy from snap to whistle and routinely pursues plays across the field. Whether attacking off the edge or working through traffic against the run. For Sanders and the Buffaloes, they have Bailey in the fold but will have to fend off any schools trying to flip him.
