WHO IS JOHN BLACKWELL??

On April 21st 2026, Jon Scheyer and the coaching staff landed one of the top transfers in the transfer portal. Jon Scheyer landed a commitment from Wisconsin shooting guard John Blackwell. Blackwell played at Wisconsin for 3 years. This past season, John Blackwell averaged 19 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game at Wisconsin. The dynamic shooting guard had an incredible junior season with the Badgers. Blackwell entered portal looking to compete for a championship for his senior year. Blackwell tested the NBA Draft waters then withdrew his name from the draft on May 22nd. Blackwell joins a very loaded backcourt at Duke. He is in the backcourt with talent such as Cayden Boozer, Caleb Foster, Deron Rippey Jr, & Bryson Howard.

The Wisconsin transfer is going to thrive in the Duke system. Blackwell can go get a bucket anytime he wants. He has proved that in his 3 seasons at Wisconsin. There is a lot of belief that John Blackwell will be the number one scoring option for Duke this upcoming season. Blackwell is not a elite defender but he is an “okay” defender. Blackwell can hold his own defensively. However, I really do believe he will improve as a defender as the year goes along this upcoming year especially with Jon Scheyer at the helm in Durham. Jon Scheyer calling card the last 2 seasons is DEFENDING. It is going to be super exciting watching this elite guard in Duke uniform.
