Rasheed Jones Commits To Rutgers

The Scarlet Knights has received a commitment from Rasheed Jones. The Scarlet Knights beat out the Baylor Bears, which also had significant interest in Jones. Jones brings his two of eligibility left to Piscataway

Jones averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal per game last season while shooting 40% from the field, 37% from three-point range, and 80% from the free-throw line. Standing at 6’6” and 190 pounds, Jones fits the mold that Steve Pikiell looks for, a taller lengthy guard.

Jones provides Rutgers with high-level scoring, as he scored in double figures in 25 games and recorded nine games with 20 or more points. An underrated aspect of his game is his playmaking ability. Jones had 12 games with four or more assists, including a season-high eight assists against Arkansas State Red Wolves.

Rutgers has built a roster centered around high-volume scoring, so Jones is presented a great opportunity to stand out as the team’s primary playmaker on offense. Jones arguably had his best game of the season against Southern Miss Golden Eagles, where he totaled 24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. He shot 8-for-13 from the field and 7-for-10 from three-point range, leading the Chanticleers to an 85–67 win. Whether you need a bucket, a steal, or man to run offense, Jones offers it all. The Scarlets Knights land a high level commit that will bolster the starting lineup!

With Jones likely stepping into a starting role, Rutgers’ starting five is beginning to take shape. A potential lineup includes Rasheed Jones at point guard, Tariq Francis at shooting guard, Darin Smith at small forward, Darren Buchanan at power forward, and Christian Gurdak anchoring the paint. Rutgers has one roster spot left and is expected to target a backup depth forward.
