AJ SURACE VS DYLAN LONERGAN, WHAT WE HAVE HEARD AND WHO WILL WIN THE QUARTERBACK JOB
Rutgers Football is less than two weeks away from its season opener and still does not have an answer atthe quarterback position. Boston College transfer Dylan Lonergan and sophomore AJ Surace are nearing the end of a battle that has stretched over the course of months. Both QBs have performed at a high level, prolonging the decision for Schiano and company. Surace sat behind Athan Kaliakmanis and appeared in a couple of games last season, throwing for two touchdowns on nine attempts. Dylan Lonergan transferred in from Boston College, where he completed 70% of his passes, throwing for 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions; however, 8 of his touchdown passes came in the first two weeks. Surace offers a little more mobility and is in his third year in the Rutgers offense, compared to the transfer Lonergan, who might offer more accuracy. After the Big Ten Network visited Rutgers, they came away impressed with the quarterbackroom but also noted that neither player was able to separate himself from the other. After today’s final scrimmage wrapped up, we now know a decision is near. Per Brian Fonseca, there could soon be white smoke coming from Piscataway, with Head Coach Greg Schiano hinting that a decision will be coming in the next few days. Rutgers fans, the wait is finally going to be over: a quarterback will be named.
