Commitment: 2027 Three Star WR Jamir Dean

STATE COLLEGE, PA - During Matt Campbell’s hiring, there were concerns about his ability to recruit at a program like Penn State. Fast forward to May, the Nittany Lions have the number 5 class in the nation and just landed their fourteenth commitment in the 2027 class. That commitment comes in the form of 6’2 180 lb. WR Jamir Dean from Alcoa, TN, who chose Penn State over Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech, among others.

Dean was one of the first players that WR Coach Kashif Moore targeted when he arrived in Happy Valley this February. Moore was previously the WR Coach at UConn and was one of the first coaches to offer Dean a Scholarship during this tenure. A recent unofficial spring visit led to an increased belief that Dean would land with the Nittany Lions as the relationship he built with Coach Moore continued to grow. But what are the Nittany Lions getting in Jamir Dean?

Many around the country believe that Jamir Dean is a big steal for Penn State at this point. He has remained one of the more under-the-radar prospects despite ranking as a top 50 WR in the country. His only ranking is per 247sports, and the belief is that once more catch on, he will be a four-star prospect by the end of the cycle. Dean put up the following stats last season:

  • 53 Receptions

  • 1,141 Yards (21.5 YPC)

  • 16 Touchdowns

Regardless of where Dean ends up in the rankings, his commitment is a welcome sight to a fan base that is starving for wide receiver production. This comes after multiple seasons of little to no wide receiver production under previous Offensive Coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and Wide Receiver Coach Marques Hagans. Dean joins a recruiting class that features four-star WR Landon Blum, who committed last month.
