Brant Byers commits to Penn State

Penn State picked up an important portal addition with Miami, Ohio forward Brant Byers committing to the Nittany Lions. The move gives Penn State a proven scorer and shooter from a Miami team that put together one of the better mid major seasons in the country. Byers is also a Pennsylvania native, which makes this one feel like both a roster win and a homecoming story for Mike Rhoades and his staff.

Byers brings real production to the Big Ten. Last season at Miami, he averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field, and he built a strong reputation as a high level perimeter threat. Reports on his commitment noted that he was one of Miami’s top scorers and that his outside shooting should translate well for a Penn State team looking for more offensive firepower.

What makes this addition interesting is the fit. Penn State is getting a 6 foot 8 wing who can stretch the floor, score in bunches, and step into a bigger role right away. For a program trying to reload through the portal, Byers looks like the kind of pickup that can help immediately while also giving the roster more size and shot making on the wing.
