Xavier continues their push for 4-Star recruit Josh Tyson as he visits campus on tuesday
Richard Pitino and the Xavier coaching staff continue to make one of the Midwest’s top prospects a priority.
On Tuesday, the Musketeers hosted four-star Class of 2027 combo guard Josh Tyson for another visit to campus, marking the second time the Cincinnati native has been to Xavier this year after also visiting in January.
Tyson recently transferred to nationally renowned La Lumiere School in Indiana for his senior season after spending his first three years at Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio. The move will allow him to compete against some of the nation’s top talent while continuing to elevate his national recruiting profile.
Xavier has emerged as one of the schools heavily involved in Tyson’s recruitment, but their are other big time schools attacking him as well. Programs including Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech are all pursuing the talented guard, with additional interest continuing to grow as he enters his final high school season.
Tyson is currently ranked as the No. 4 player in Indiana, the No. 10 combo guard in the Class of 2027, and the No. 56 overall player in the nation. His stock has steadily climbed thanks to his impressive blend of athleticism, versatility, and production against elite competition.
The 6-foot-2 guard has developed into one of the most exciting two-way prospects in the region. Offensively, Tyson is at his best attacking the rim, where his explosiveness and strength allow him to finish through contact. He has also shown flashes as a capable playmaker who can create opportunities for teammates while continuing to improve as a perimeter shooter.
Defensively, Tyson possesses the physical tools that college coaches covet. His length, lateral quickness, and instincts allow him to guard multiple positions, making him a valuable piece on both ends of the floor. While adding strength to his frame will be an important part of his long-term development, his ceiling remains incredibly high.
His talent has also earned national recognition. Earlier this summer, Tyson was selected to the USA Basketball U18 Training Camp roster, an honor reserved for many of the country’s top young prospects.
During his junior season at Lakota West, he averaged 16.3 points, 3.8 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting an impressive 63 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range. His efficiency and all-around impact helped establish him as one of Ohio’s premier backcourt players.

He carried that momentum into the adidas 3SSB circuit this spring and summer, averaging 14.5 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds while competing against many of the nation’s best prospects. His performances further solidified his reputation as one of the top guards in the 2027 class.
For Richard Pitino and his staff, Tyson represents the type of player they want as Pitino continues to build his culture here at Xavier. His combination of athleticism, defensive upside, versatility, and local ties makes him an ideal fit for the culture Xavier is establishing under its second-year head coach.
With several high-major programs continuing to recruit him aggressively and more visits expected throughout the recruiting process, landing Tyson will be no easy task. However, Xavier has positioned itself firmly in the conversation, and the Musketeers will continue making him one of the top priorities in their 2027 recruiting class as they look to secure one of the best guards in the 2027 recruiting class.
