BREAKING: Five-Star QB Will Mencl Commits To Oregon!
Five-Star QB Will Mencl announced he has committed to Oregon on Wednesday Night, giving Oregon one of the top QBs in the 2027 cycle.
The 6’3 205lbs Chandler, Arizona QB was heavily pursued by Auburn and Penn State. He ultimately picked Oregon, who have had their hats in this one since before Mencl’s rise. In his junior season, he threw for 258 Passes for 4,556 Passing Yards and 50 TDs. Mencl is rated as the No 1 QB in the 2027 Class according to Rivals.
Oregon has played a big part in this recruitment since his rise. Auburn was also very involved here… they made a late push in the last few moments of this one to try and reel in the QB. Penn State was really just a hat on the table here, as they were nowhere close to Oregon or Auburn.
Dan Lanning loses his coordinators and then goes out and gets one of the top QBs in the country. If Mencl is willing to wait for his turn, this could turn out to be really good for the Ducks. The tools are all there but the raw athleticism is what will have to translate to the next level. It will be interesting to see what Alex Golesh does here. Auburn has been a very hot name for QBs in this class with Golesh at helm. I could see Auburn try and flip Mencl throughout the season or so.
Oregon seems to have been one of the more consistent schools in this one and I think that was one factor. New coaching staffs at both Auburn and Penn State can be very hard to commit to without any show of production.
