Last week, San Mateo (CA) Four-Star S Malakai Taufoou announced his top five. He included Oregon. Washington, Cal, Penn State, and BYU. One of the top safeties on the west coast is getting ready to find his next home.

One thing that stands clear about his top five is the appeal to him and his family. They have played a big part in helping Taufoou during the process. Currently, all five are pushing for Taufoou and giving him a lot to think about. “They have all shown me how they want to develop me into being the best player and man I can possibly be.”

The leader of the pack here seems to be the Homestate Cal Golden Bears & Tosh Lopui. They have established a very good message that they want to keep the best in the state home. The close to home and family factor could play, but Cal has also just been working very hard on putting together a great class.

Washington and Penn State are in the mix here. Washington has been battling with Cal for a little now and Penn State recently got him on campus this spring. But, his relationships are also very well throughout all five. One thing to note is the belief he has in each program in his top five. Taufoou said, “All coaches have a specific culture in their programs that I believe I fit into.”

The 6’2 195 Safety is starting to gear up for a busy official visit season. He will go to Oregon (May 29), Penn State (June 4), Cal (June 11), and Washington (June 19). He wants to commit after his official visits but don’t be shocked if he commits earlier than that.
