whos primed to breakout?

With the spring football game over, this is the perfect time of year to start revving the hype engines. While the veterans make headlines time and time again, every season is truly defined by the guys who make the most out of their time in the spotlight. I’ve been watching these guys play, and here’s 5 who I think will turn heads in the fall:

  1. Koby Young - WR.

Koby has shown flashes of why he was so highly touted in high school. The former four star wide receiver has been itching for his chance to get on the field, and when he’s on it… he’s successful. Last year he averaged 15.9 yards a catch, that’s what you call another Houston Cougars first down.

  2. DJ Butler - RB.

Last year Dean Connors was a work horse, this year however we know Re’Shaun Sanford II is looking to take his place. But Sanford isn’t the 6 foot strongman Connors was, which is why God invented the running back tandem. Look for Butler to make a huge impact on broken plays and third downs. He’s primed for a huge year, and he knows it.

  3. Latreveon McCutchin - LB.

The defense needs leaders, and what better than our linebacker- the quarterback of the defense. McCutchin has a nose to sniff out players before they even happen. He also has the frame, and not to mention the training of his brother, Friday Night Tykes legend, Latrell McCutchin Sr. His sideline to sideline range will be his biggest asset for us next season.

  4. Alvin Ebosele - OL.

Amare Thomas needs Connor Weigman to throw him the ball, Connor Weigman needs the running back group to get the ground game going to open up the pass, and the running backs need the offensive line to block to get the ground game going. That’s where Alvin Ebosele comes in. His size and physicality have been noticeable in the trenches, and he’s shaping up to be a force who can create lanes for our backs and keep the pocket clean.

  5. Patrick Overmyer - TE.

When you lose a guy like Koziol, who put up 74 catches, over 700 yards, and 6 TDs in a single season, you aren't just looking for another body at tight end, you’re looking for the same— or even better. That’s where Overmyer comes in. He’s the perfect safety blanket for Weigman, so don’t be surprised when he ends up being the first read on 3rd and long. Consider Overmyer not a replacement, but a step up from an already great platform.
